epiphany concert at nadur local council
On
Sunday 7th January, 2007 at 6.00pm, the young soprano Ms Ilnara
Biyusova will perform during the Epiphany Concert to be held at the
Joe Tabone Hall at the Local Council. Ilnara Biyusova hails from the
city of Vyshy Volochek in the Tver region in Russia. Nadur has
signed a bilateral agreement with this city, in fact the soprano is
travelling to Malta with the collaboration of the Vyshy Volochek
administration and the Russian Cultural Centre in Malta. Ms Biyusova
will be accompanied on the piano by Ms Svetlana Bodiuol while she
sings excerpts from W.A. Mozart,
P. Tchaikovsky, I. Dounaevsky, G. Caccini, J.S. Bach/C. Gounod
and Puccini.
During her stay in Malta, Ilnara Biyusova will be also performing
during the Russian Christmas celebrations in the Russian Chapel at
San Anton Palace. She will be singing during the 9:30am mass at the
Nadur Basilica on Sunday 7 January. Click for

It is working hard to establish this activity as an annual event

REFUSE COLLECTION FOR THESE FESTIVE
DAYS
Refuse collection will be done as usual everyday, except on Sunday
24th and Monday 25th December. Residents are kindly asked not to
take out their refuse on these days

ANOTHER ‘BRING IN SITE’ AT SAN BLAS
Another ‘Bring In Site’ was added near the playing field at San
Blas. In fact, after the success of the first site near the Primary
School, the Local Council is planning to add more sites in the near
future. The next sites will be posted at Tal-Hali and near the
Kenuna Tower. We appeal to all residents to make good use of these
sites to help in the waste recycle.
THE PROGRAMME "KULHADD
FIL-PJAZZA" FROM NADUR
The TV programme "KULHADD FIL-PJAZZA"
screened on Television Malta every Sunday will be transmitted from
the main square at Nadur on Sunday 11th February, 2007. On that day
there will be a new programme of the Organised Carnival in the
afternoon.

the Christmas market
The Christmas Market will be held over 4 days from Thursday 7th to
Sunday 10th December under a big tent in St Peter and St Paul
Square. With over 35 stands in 4 sections: Craft; Food; Citrus and
Wine, it will offer patrons the opportunity to shop around for gifts
while enjoying the yuletide atmosphere created by a packed programme
of entertainment. Father Christmas will be in attendance.
20.11.06:
Hall at New Premises named after joe Tabone
The hall at the New Premises was named after Joe Tabone, the first
Mayor of Nadur who had also started plans for the building of the
said premises. In a short programme commemorating "Council Day",
Mayor Chris Said opened an art exhibition by Prof, Guido Laperuta
from Cicciano and conferred the honorary citizenship to 5 members:
Daniele Fantechi, Consultant; Jean-Claude Bord, Parisot Mayor; Sauro
Testi, Bucine Mayor; Valentin Vlasov, Russian Ambassador and Massimo Zoppi, Baveno Mayor. Certificates of recognition were then awarded
to Salvina Buttigieg, Joseph Magro, Francesca Mizzi, Joseph Muscat,
Fr. Charles Vella, Charles Xuereb and Gemma Zammit for their
dedicated work in the community. Vice Mayor Miriam Portelli
presented certificates to Paul Andrew Vella, Jonathan Portelli,
Charmaine Bugeja, Elizabeth Grech, Marlene Portelli and Stephanie
Said who were elected in the first Youth
Council, and to other volunteers: Michael Grech, Charlene Grech,
Rita Buttigieg and Angie Pace.

official opening of the new premises
Bishop Mario Grech led a concelebrated mass as thanksgiving in the
presence of the President of Malta, Edward Fenech Adami, Vice Prime
Minister Tonio Borg, Minister for Gozo Giovanna Debono, Mayor,
Councillors and the five delegations from the cities, coming from
Italy, France and Russia, that had a twinning or co-operative
agreements with the Local Council. The President also visited the
Mnaria Band club and the nursery of the Nadur Youngsters where the
Joe Tabone tournament was being held. Then he inaugurated the new
premises at North Street.

President's official visit to nadur
The President of Malta,
Edward Fenech Adami started his official visit to Nadur this morning
at the St Francis Pre-school followed by the elderly Day Centre and
the Nadur Primary school where he attended for a short programme run
by the students. In the evening, the President had a meeting with
all the clubs, associations, groups and NGO's from Nadur at the
MUSEUM Centre where he heard about their work in the community.

An
art exhibition by 2 young emerging artists from Nadur, was
officially opened at Ta' Kenuna Tower by Mayor Chris Said as part of
the Council Day celebrations. Maxine C. Attard and Nathan Portelli
are exhibiting their works for the first time with their particular
style and character. The Exhibition will be opened till Sunday 26th
November.

Public Meeting about
council's projects
A
public meeting was held on Monday 13th November at the Joe Debono
Hall in the Primary school, where Mayor Chris Said gave details
about the present projects which the Local Council has and the
proposed projects for the future, namely the rehabilitation of the
Qortin quarry which will cost about LM500,000, the resurfacing of
streets in the Locality, the projects which have been approved by
the EU, the proposed projects which are still to be decided by the
EU for funding and the Christmas Market which is to be held over 4
days under a big tent in the main square.

Gieh in-Nadur to
MR joseph said
The Nadur Local Council started its week celebrations to commemorate
the Council's Day with the
presentation of Premju Gieh in-Nadur to Mr Joseph Said at the
MBC theatre during an Instrumental Concert by the Mnarja Band
directed by Mro. Joseph Grech on the occasion of the St Coronatu
feast. Mayor Chris Said presented Joseph Said the trophy and shield
while highlighting the importance of voluntary work as Joseph Said
did and is still doing at the Mnarja Band Club. This was the 9th
edition of Premju Gieh in-Nadur.

first meetings at the new
premises
The Nadur Local Council has started transferring its offices to the
new premises in North Street from where all services will be offered
as from next week. On Tuesday 17th October, the first formal
meetings were held on the new premises. At 7.00pm, the sub-committee
for the Christmas Market which is to be held on the 7-10th December
at the main square under a big tent, met. This was followed by the
other sub-committee for Council's Day activities which are to start
from 11th -20th November, 2006.

Maria Natoli elected in the Local councils Association
Nadur Councillor, Maria Natoli, was elected from the general list to
the executive committee of the Local Councils Association in which
the Malta Labour Party elected 4 councillors, while the Nationalist
Party elected 3 councillors to the executive.
"At last the Labour Party has a
representative from Gozo in the association and I am ready to do my
best towards the common good of all." was the first reaction by
Maria at the result.

The Delicata Classic Wine Festival -First day
The 4th Delicata Classic Wine
Festival in Nadur, Gozo officially started yesterday for 3 days with
an entertaining programme presented by Marlene Muscat. The festival
starts at 7.00pm with wine being served till 11.30. Patrons can buy
a glass for LM3.25 and and enjoy the food from the different food
stalls. A shuttle service from Mgarr harbour to Nadur will be
available throughout the festival.
Admission is free.

The Torri Sopu after restoration works that were carried out
in the last years was officially inaugurated by Hon. Minister Tonio
Borg and Mayor Dr. Chris Said today in the presence of Hon. Speaker
Anton Tabone, Hon. Minister for Gozo, Giovanna Debono and Martin
Galea, President of 'Din l-Art Helwa'. A well attended audience
assisted for an enactment about the Militia, a historic
background about the tower by Fr Joe Bezzina, an overview by architect Edward Scerri of the work
carried out on site and the participation of the Mnarja folk Group, Jean
Noel & Pierre Louis Attard on violin, Sarah Saliba - Ballet and Soprano
Rosabelle Pavia.

Tenders for work on the resurfacing of Ramla Road has been
published in the Government Gazette (p.6698) on Friday, 4th August,
2006. Such tenders can be submitted up to 10.00 a.m. on THURSDAY,
14th September, 2006, for: *CT 310#2006. Resurfacing works in Ramla
Road, Nadur Gozo – Ministry for Gozo. A fee of Lm25 will be charged
for each copy of tender document.

of Torri Sopu after restoration
The

out by the Nadur Local Council during the last 9 years will be held on

Tonio Borg will preside the ceremony. The programme includes an

"TORRIJIET": First Cultural Evening at Ta' Sopu Tower
A well
attended cultural evening of dance, songs, poetry and music was held on
Thursday 13th July in front of Ta' Sopu Tower, at Nadur. The programme
compered by Marlene Muscat, included 'The Ballad of St Coronatus', sung
by Pamela Bezzina accompanied by Joe Engerer on the guitar; 'Czardas'
and 'Slavonic Dance' performed on violin by Jean Noel & Pierre Louis
Attard, accompanied on piano by Colin Attard; 'The Dahlet Qorrot Coast
Watch-Tower' - a historic note read by Peter Paul Buttigieg; Soprano,
Rita Dimech sung 'Waltz of my Heart', 'On my lips every kiss is like
wine', 'Non ti scordar di me' and 'O surdato innamorato'; while dancers
Sarah Grima, Simone Camilleri, Ramona Cassar performed 'Shades of Bliss'
- Ballet and 'Explosive' - Jazz. The first of a series of Cultural
evenings called "Torrijiet" was held by the Organising Committee Culture
from the Ministry for Gozo in collaboration with the Nadur Local
Council.

10.07.06:
Inauguration of Artificial Turf Ground and Sports Facilities
Hon.
Prime Minister, Lawrence Gonzi and Minister for Gozo, Giovanna Debono
will be inaugurating the new artificial turf ground and the Sports
Facilities at Imgarr Road Nadur on Saturday, 29th July, 2006 at 7.30pm.
The work was carried out following an agreement between the Nadur local
Council, the Nadur Youngsters FC and the Ministry for Gozo.
A
triangular tournament will be held between Nadur Youngsters, Qala St.
Joseph and Ghajnsielem FC followed by a Barbecue. All residents are

"TORRIJIET": a Cultural Evening at Ta' Sopu Tower
The
Organising Committee Culture from the Ministry for Gozo in collaboration
with the Nadur Local Council are presenting a cultural evening of dance,
songs, poetry and music in front of the Ta' Sopu Tower, at Nadur on
Thursday 13th July 2006 at 9.00pm.
Free
tickets for setting are available from the Culture office till Wednesday

30.06.06:
A Bilateral Agreement signed with Vischni Volochek, Russia
This
evening, the Nadur Local Council signed a bilateral agreement with Vischni Volochek,
from the Tver region of Russia at the 'Joe Debono Hall' of the Nadur
Primary school instead of the programmed venue at Ta' Sopu Tower due to
inclement weather. Mark Zhainov, mayor of Vishni Volochek, was
accompanied by a delegation together with the Russian ambassador
Valentin Vlasov who helped toward this new initiative. The ceremony
started with the planting of an olive tree in front of the Local Council
and continued with a short programme and the signing of the bilateral
agreement. Present for this agreement were: Hon. Justyne Caruana,
representatives of local Associations and a delegation from Cicciano,
Italy.

'Burmilla' at the Agricultural Exhibition
A
newly imported cat, called Burmilla, will be at the Agricultural
Exhibition today and tomorrow, making its first appearance in Malta and
Gozo at Nadur. This is the first of its breed to be imported to
Malta/Gozo. It is a very rare breed which was officially
recognized as Breed in 1994. The only other countries that have the
breed are UK, Spain and Scandinavia. This cat comes from Mallorca, Spain
and is of a family of International Grand Champions. Interestingly one
of her family is owned by Ralf Schumacher, the car racing driver! This
will be presented by the Malta Feline Federation

9.06.06:
ANOTHER ARTIFICIAL TURF PITCH AT NADUR
Work
at the Nadur football ground is in the last stage with the laying of
artificial turf which will soon be finished. This makes it as the
biggest football ground in Gozo to have artificial turf.
The
work is being carried out by All Sport International firm after an
agreement between the Nadur local Council, the Nadur Youngsters FC and
the Ministry for Gozo. While the Ministry for Gozo has done the
levelling of the surface and laid the foundation in concrete, the Nadur
Local Council and the Nadur Youngsters FC provided the artificial turf.
The
Local Council is going to install a new floodlighting system. The ground
will be
available to all the Nadur Youngsters teams for training and can be
divided in two
5-a-side pitches. Alongside, 2 bowling pitches and a kiosk were built to
provide other sporting activities.
This
will be the second artificial pitch at Nadur, after the inauguration of
a similar pitch at the MUSEUM centre. Talks are being held so that one
of the pitches which were donated by EUFA to the Malta Football
Association will be laid at the Nadur Primary School ground

Course on EU Project
Management and Opportunities.
Nadur
Local Council in collaboration with the Council of Bucine in Tuscany is
organising a 70-hour course called 'Start-UP: Training on Project
Management and European Union Opportunities'. With an overview of the
European funding, namely the Structural Funds - The European Regional
and Development Funds (ERDF) and The European Social Funds (ESF); the Cohesion
Fund and the European Sectorial Funds for which Malta is eligible from 2007-2013, the course
leads towards a Project management starting from the
application to the final report.
Thirteen
participants have registered for this
course which is being coordinated by Coopen Consultancy Cooperative
led by Daniele Fantechi as president, together with Nataniele Gennari,
Elena Cellai and Roberta Cellai
The course started on the 20th of April and ends on the 7th
of May with
another 20 hours in June.

20.04.06:
First phase for a new artificial turf pitch completed
The
first phase of
work at the football ground in Imgarr Road Nadur for a new artificial
turf pitch has been completed. This included the levelling of the
surface in concrete and the construction of two bowling pitches and a
patio. The next phase continues with the laying of the artificial turf, the
installation of a new lighting system and a kiosk.
All
the work is being carried out in collaboration between the Nadur Local
Council, the Nadur Youngsters Football Club and the Ministry for Gozo.
