CARNIVAL 2010
CELEBRATIONS AT NADUR
“Let’s go to Nadur Carnival”
is the common cry starting after Christmas or before especially for
those who have to book accommodation well in advance!
The policy followed by the Local Council and
the Sub Committee responsible for the carnival activities is to do
all our best to sustain such spontaneity and creativity without any
intervention whatsoever. The Local Council’s only intervention in
the spontaneous carnival is to plan safety measures in collaboration
with the police about traffic management, the engagement of Red
Cross, the licensing of hawkers, instalment of adequate lighting and
the cleansing. The rest is left to the imagination of the ‘maskerati’.
The Carnival activities start on Saturday 6th
February with the “Miss Queen Carnival 2010” at MBC Theatre, an
activity by the Mnarja Band Club in collaboration with the Nadur
Local Council.
Besides the Spontaneous Carnival at Nadur
there will be the Organised Carnival. This is programmed for Sunday
7th February starting at noon at the St Peter and St Paul Square
with: Il-Kumittiva, Miss Queen Carnival (Malta), Miss Queen Carnival
from Desborough (Great Britain), dance groups, Mnarja band, Big
Friends GuggenMusik 2008, Carnival costume groups, a traditional
music group and floats with the presentation by Ronald Briffa.
