the 7th delicata classic wine
festival'09
For the seventh
consecutive year, following the wine festival in Valletta, Delicata
in conjunction with Nadur Local Council will be taking its wine
festival to the viticultural heart of Gozo, Nadur from the 4th to
the 6th September 2009. Once again this sleepy, idyllic Gozitan
village will come alive as the wine festival gets underway at the
Gnien il-Kunsill.
The festival will open
at 7.00pm and the last wines will be served at 11.30pm before
closing at midnight, with live entertainment every evening.
Over twenty quality
Gozitan and Maltese wines will be available. People who wish to try
the wines need only purchase a souvenir wine glass, which is theirs
to keep. Then just show the correct coloured wristband (there will
be a different colour each night) and present the glass at any wine
stand and visitors can try as many wines, as often as they like.
There will also be a number of food stalls offering some delicious
foods like sucking pig, oriental dishes, pasta, rabbit etc. There is
also a seated dining area, ‘The Channel View’ grill.

0pening of cat cafe and closure
of nadur neutering project
Nadur
Local Council and Gozo SPCA
yesterday opened a Cat Cafe in the presence of Parliamentary
Secretary for Public Dialogue and Information Dr Chris Said LLD MP.
This occasion also marked the official closure of the free
pet neutering project in Nadur.
The
Nadur neutering project was launched in February, following up on
the successful pilot project in San Lawrenz and it has been another
unqualified success. Since late February 170 cats and 26 dogs have
been neutered in Nadur, which will undoubtedly save many hundreds
and ultimately thousands of unwanted puppies and kittens from being
born.
The
Nadur residents have learned much about the benefits of neutering
their pets through the Gozo SPCA story boards which have been set up
in the Council offices’ foyer and through the educational leaflets
handed out, both in English and Maltese.
It
must emphasised how smoothly the entire project has run; this is
thanks to Nadur Council, Gozo SPCA and veterinary surgeon Dr Frank
Galea working together as a team in total harmony – differing
organisations with a common aim to improve animal welfare in Gozo.
This
neutering project would never have been possible without the
generous participation of The Blue Cross, Britain’s Pet Charity, who
funded the cat neutering and ITV Grenzenlos, Germany for funding the
dogs. Gozo SPCA and Nadur Council are delighted that Mr Steve Goody,
The Blue Cross Director of Companion Animal Welfare will be
attending the launch as he will be in Gozo for the weekend visiting
Gozo SPCA, who are Welfare Associates of The Blue Cross. The Blue
Cross and the Ministry for Resources and Rural Affairs jointly
funded the purchase of the neutering van being used for the
project.
A
couple of years ago Rachel Smith from WSPA (the World Society for
the Protection of Animals) visited Nadur, giving advice on the
setting up of cat cafes. She will be pleased to know that her
suggestions will be activated in Nadur. Nadur Council and Gozo
SPCA’s wish is for residents to accept and respect street cats as
part of the environment, whilst providing a safe, clean and
attractive feeding station, which will enhance the neighbourhood.
