NEW BOOK: "Nadur, the village of the rising sun."
The Nadur Local Council has just published a new book –
Nadur, the village of the
rising sun. Nadur, the village from where one can enjoy a
magnificent sunrise, is the most populated parish of Gozo. It was
one of the first hamlets of the island to be raised to the status of
a village. This took place in 1688, when it became an autonomous
parish. The places of interest range from prehistoric remains to a
troglodyte abode; from a coastal tower to two windmills; from old
niches to a maritime museum; from valleys brimming with citrus fruit
trees to beautifully laid gardens. The jewel in the crown is the
parish church dedicated to Saint Peter and Paul with its countless
treasures. The book has four parts: a short history of Nadur; a
guide to the main attractions in the village; the story of the
parish with a detailed guide to the baroque church and its
paintings; and a section with information on the folkloristic
attractions held throughout the year as well as all societies and
clubs. The book is number 26 in the Gaulitana series on the history
and heritage of Gozo and is co-authored by Gozo historian Joseph
Bezzina and Joe Muscat. It is the hope of the Nadur Local Council
that this book will enhance the love of the Nadurin for their
village and will attract more foreign visitors to take pleasure in
the beauties of our village. The book with many colour illustrations
will sell for Lm2.50; however it is being offered at a
pre-publication price of Lm2.00, a savings of 20%, if acquired from
the Nadur Local Council, before 29 June, the parish feast.
